Release date

The iPhone was said to launch in September, but there has been some report that there might be a delay in the release date of the iPhone 12.

In July, during an Apple earnings call, the chief financial officer Luca Maestri noted that the last year’s shipment of iPhone 11 in September also included that this year’s shipment of iPhone 12 will be a few weeks later than the previous.

As stated by the leaker Jon Prosser, the release will occur in October. Prosser also stated that both models of the iPhone 12 Pro would be released in November.

Another leak says that the pre-order for the iPhone 12 will end on the 20th of October (on a Tuesday), which looks unlikely.

It is more likely to end on a Thursday, and then it will go on sale on Friday. The anticipation of the iPhone 12 is high, and the release date is said to be on the 23rd of October.

As stated by Bloomberg, 75 million iPhone 12 units are being prepared by Apple for its launch, as there are a lot of anticipating demands.

Some rumors insinuate that Apple plans to put the cheaper models on sale as they launch the iPhone 12.

Price

The iPhone 12 price seems to be on a must-know basis recently. The latest leak was from @komiya kj on Twitter, which stated that the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 would start sale at $699 for 64GB.

The 6.1 inches iPhone 12 Max has a $799 price-tag but for the same amount of storage. Other leaks suggest that the starting model could be as high as $749.

However, various sources indicating that the pricing could be cheaper if Apple decides to produce and sell the LTE-only models. The prices mentioned above are for the 5G models of the iPhone 12. There is a report that stated that Apple would release a 4G LTE iPhone 12 models in early 2021.

An analyst called Jon Prosser previously said that the 5.4 inch iPhone with two rear cameras might start at $649, which would be quite more affordable at $50 lesser than the iPhone 11. The 6.1 inches iPhone 12 Max will cost $749.

The iPhone 12 Pro, which is said to have three rear cameras plus a LiDAR sensor and its price might start from $999 or $1,049. The iPhone 12 Pro might feature a 120Hz ProMotiob display, but this claim isn’t confirmed yet. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is said to feature a 6.7-inch display and cost $1,099 or $1,149.

Models

OLED displays are expected to be incorporated into all the four models of the iPhone, which marks as a turnaround for Apple. Like the preceding iPhone XR, the iPhone does not feature an OLED panel but an LCD.

Here are the expected features of the iPhone 12 models, from a report detailed by the CEO of Display Supply Chain Ross Young.

iPhone 12

We expect the iPhone 12 to feature a 5.4-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2340×1080. Young expect it to feature Y-OCTA technology, which means the displays also serve as the touch sensor.

Concerning the hardware, the iPhone 12 is rumored to feature an A14 processor with a 4GB RAM and a choice between 256GB and 128GB of storage. Similarly to the iPhone 11, they will work with a dual camera.

iPhone 12 Max

Rumors indicate that the iPhone 12 Max will feature the same hardware as the expected iPhone 12. The features include an A14 processor, 128GB or 256GB, 4GB of RAM, and dual cameras.

The main difference between the standard iPhone 12 and the Max will be the battery and screen size, of which the Max will be increased. The iPhone 12 Max will also have a larger 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 2532×1170 resolution.

iPhone 12 Pro

The 6.1-inch phone will feature a flexible OLED, and it could be the first phone that will feature 10-bit colour support, according to Young. It will feature a Y-OCTA technology with a 2532×1170 resolution.

Another rumor indicates that the iPhone 12 Pro could support a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is expected to consist of a 6GB RAM in an A14-powered model with a choice of storage ranging from 128GB to 512GB.

The Pro series is expected to feature three rear lenses, highlighted by a 64MP main sensor. It also features a LiDAR time-of-flight sensor that oversees an improvement in the performance of iPhone AR apps.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

It is expected to feature the same camera functions and storage & RAM size as the iPhone 12 Pro. The difference is the size of the OLED panel. The Pro Max is expected to feature a 6.7-inch OLED panel. The resolution could be 2778×1824, with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Colours

There some speculation regarding the colours the iPhone 12 will be available in. Rumors indicate that Apple is probably following the pattern of the previous iPhone models.

If that is true, we should expect a greater quality of colour with a less expensive iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 Pro series will probably have a darker colour scheme such as Silver and Space Gray.

Another rumor indicates that Apple might add a blue to the colour collection of the iPhone 12 Pro. The Midnight Green colour on the iPhone 11 Pro will be replaced by the rumored blue colour.

Concerning the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max, a YouTube video by EverythingApplePro indicated that Apple was considering violet, light blue, and light orange as new colours additions.

Only two of the previously mentioned colours are expected to join the iPhone 12 collection. The iPhone collection consists of 11 colours.

5G

All the iPhone 12 models are also rumored to support 5G networks, but only one model will offer the fastest possible speeds.

According to Fast Company, the only device to support mmWave 5G will be the iPhone 12 Pro Max, while the other three models will settle for sub-6-GHz 5G. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the only model whose size can contain an mmWave antenna and battery size enough to withstand the battery drain.

The other model’s 5G offers a longer range, but it has slower compared to that of the mmWave technology, which can reach up to 2Gps.

Camera

A Digitimes report stated that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will have two rear cameras, and the Pro series will have three rear cameras with a new LiDAR sensor.

According to a different report, the iPhone 12 will use a 7-part lens for the main camera, which differs from the iPhone 11 series 6-part lens. The 7-part lens has better photo quality and reduced distortion when compared to the 6-part lens.

The sensor is expected to accurately determine the distance between the phone and the object it is shooting. This will lead to better portraits photos and accurate object tracking and effects in the AR apps. Another rumor indicates that the iPhone 12 will display digital information of items in Apple Stores and Starbucks when it pointed at the item.

In a published report from DigiTimes, the next iPhone is said to employ Sensor-Shift. This comes as a new kind of stabilization technology that detects how the phone is moving. The camera sensors move in the opposite direction of the phone movement by using small actuators to keep the picture steady.

Concerning the video aspect, several reports from EverythingApplePro indicate that the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have the option to shoot 4K footage at 240fps or 120 frames per second.

Performance and A14 Bionic

The A14 Bionic chip is expected to provide a 15% performance boost and be 30% more efficient. The chip was revealed by Apple at its Special Event on the 15th of September, and it was mainly focused on the iPad and the Apple Watch.

The first appearance of the A14 Bionic chip will be in the new iPad Air 4. The chip has a 6 core design in a 5-nanometer size, with 11.8 million transistors. It might turn out to be one of the strongest chipset made at this current period.

Battery

Some reports indicate that in term of battery capacities, the iPhone 11 series have the upper hand. The iPhone 12 (5.4 inches) is rumored to have a 2,227mAh battery, and the iPhone 12 Max (6.1 inches) & iPhone 12 Pro will reportedly feature 2,775mAh batteries. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is expected to come with a 3,687mAh battery.

Concerning the wireless charging, it is possible that magnets will be embedded in the back of the iPhone 12. This would help in terms of connecting to a new batch of wireless charging mats that would already have a magnet embedded in them too.

iOS 14

There is a new update for iPhones to upgrade their operating system to iOS 14 beta, but the final version of the OS will be launched with the iPhone 12. The iOS let you interact with your phone differently.

It allows you to put widgets on the home screen, and a new App Library to find software easily has been added. Other enhancements to existing apps that can be expected include Notes, Voice Memos, Weather, and a new Translate app.

Accessories

On a normal day, an iPhone is always shipped with a charger and a set of earbuds. Some reports indicate that it might not be true for the iPhone 12. The report tells us that Apple might be thinking of skipping the charger.

Analyst Ming Chi Kuo also expects Apple to skip the earbuds this time around. He believes Apple would like its customer to get accustomed or upgrade to its AirPods, so the next shipment would be without earbuds. As a consolation, Apple might upgrade another accessory that comes with the iPhone; an example is a cable.

From an unconfirmed leak on tweeter, it says the new iPhone will come with a braided USB-C-to-Lightning cable. If this is true, the cable will be more durable than the standard plastic shrouded charging cables that have been shipped with older models.

Several pictures of the braided cable have been seen popping up here and there.
